Since that time, Andrew has been a leading member of the Bank’s Executive team that transformed the Bank of Ireland, fully repaid the State Aid received during the financial crisis, returned the Bank to sustainable profitability and re-started the dividend after 10 years. Earlier in 2018, Andrew and his executive colleagues designed and published the Bank’s strategy for its next chapter. The key pillars of this strategy include the Bank supporting its customers and communities by expanding its loan books by 20%, the Bank will transform its technology to replace its core banking system with modern, best of breed platforms and the Bank will grow its sustainable profits and increase its Return on Tangible Equity from 7% to in excess of 10% by 2021. In addition to his role as Group CFO, Andrew is the Executive Sponsor for Inclusion & Diversity in the Group and he advocates tirelessly on behalf of the 6 employee networks - gender, LGBTI+, multi-cultural, inter-generational, accessibility and parents and carers. Andrew is also a Non-Executive Director of the Irish Management Institute - Ireland’s pre-eminent institute of executive education. Prior to joining Bank of Ireland, Andrew worked for Ulster Bank for 7 years in a number of senior finance leadership roles including Chief Accountant. He qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Arthur Andersen and he was awarded the Gold medal for achieving first place in Ireland in the final accounting examination. Andrew has a Bachelor of Commerce degree from University College Cork and a Masters of Accounting from University College Dublin.
