Technology can transform the world we live in. Even in my lifetime, from having no cell phones and only rotary dial phones, to what you can do now with your mobile phone, it is simply amazing. The pace of innovation is going to get faster and faster. As the CFO, it gives you a broader perspective in helping to manage more business aspects and people. It helps you balance from getting too involved in the details versus getting too high-level. Once you have two functions to manage, you must balance your time and change your style to be successful. It also gives you a nice variety, as you are not just looking at one thing all the time. The IT team is great to work with and they are transforming IT and business at McDermott. It has been a great learning journey. At the heart of it, IT and Finance are also linked together and are two functions that touch every part of the business. It is a lot of fun managing both. What do you love about what you do? I love all of it. After four and a half years, I keep saying there is never a dull day. Every day has a new challenge in it. Every day is filled with great progress and watching people perform, deliver and grow. It is such a dynamic environment and every day is exciting. Anything else to add? I think for any CFO to be successful, you have to be passionate about what you do. If you don’t have the passion and don’t love what you do, it is a chore to do your job. If you are passionate and you love it, it all comes easy for you.
