CFO at Basel Holding TAHSIN GUR ABOUT TAHSIN GUR Tahsin Gur was born in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus as the first and only child of an artisan family. During his secondary education, in 2005, he was given the opportunity to attend the Cyprus Boldleaders Program, where he was selected as one of the Peer Leaders for the 2006 session of the program. An active member of his community, and a well-known individual amongst his peers, he became the President of his high school government in 2006 – 2007. Following that, he was awarded the Cyprus Fulbright Scholarship (CASP Award) and was accepted by American University in Washington, DC to obtain his undergraduate degree, with the distinction of having Paraskevaides Scholarship on top. Located in the heart of world politics, he maintained strong relationships with the Embassy of Turkey and the representative office of the Turkish Republic of North Cyprus, while continuing his studies. Mr. Gur graduated in the top 1% in May 2012, with a dual degree in Mathematics and Finance, and a minor in Economics. Using his strong academic and social background, he was accepted to Koc University’s MBA Program in Istanbul, Turkey with a merit based scholarship, again graduating in the top 1% of his class. Upon finishing his studies, Mr. Gur started to work as Finance Business Partner for Foods category in Unilever Turkey – where he has partnered foods business portfolio in Turkey together with the marketing department. Despite his young age, Mr. Gur has been appointed as Senior Treasury Dealer in Unilever global treasury department in Switzerland, having responsibilities for the full loan and investment portfolio for Europe and North America, funding and liquidity management of Europe, North America, Latin America and Turkey. At the peak of his career in the role, he was managing about EUR 60bn. worth of portfolio. On top of those, he has been responsible for the FX and hedging policy of numerous countries under Unilever umbrella. Taking a step further in his career, Mr. Gur has returned back ‘home’ to Cyprus to take a lead in developing the financial services and consulting industries. After completion of successful projects, he has been employed by Basel Holding as the group’s Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and is responsible of a team that runs accounting, profitability analysis, financial management and portfolio management of group companies. Currently, his team manages over 15 different investments of Basel Holding in 4 continents concurrently – mainly putting the focus on the fintech investments. Aside from his academic career, Mr. Gur has served as the General Secretary of KIBISAD (Cypriot Businessmen Association, Istanbul), where he was responsible from helping day-to- day operations, advising the board members with current trends in business, and managing the youth segment of the association.
